Important Information for Current Users of the SID database
Many people who have been using the SID database for years have been downloading the new mega-database installation file. There is nothing wrong with this, but users should know that installing this file will erase any illustrations or sermons they have added on their own, and erase any edits they have made to records.
You may be better off doing the following (all the files are at
http://www.holwick.com/database.html and http://www.holwick.com/sermons/database-sets.html):1. If your SID version is less than 2.01, download and run the SID_Upgrade.exe file at http://www.holwick.com/sermons/databases/SID_Upgrade.exe
2. Download and import the illustration annual supplement for 2009. http://www.holwick.com/sermons/databases/Kerux_illustration_supplement_2009.zip
3. Do the same for the sermon annual supplement for 2009. http://www.holwick.com/sermons/databases/Kerux_sermon_supplement_2009.zip
This way you end up with the same mega-database as the new download, and have all your personal data preserved as well.
If you are getting the new setup file to put on a new (or different) computer, go ahead and install the new mega-dabase. You can then transfer all your old illustrations and sermons to the new database. The key file is normally at "C:\Program Files\Kerux Sermon Materials\SID\data\kerux.mdb". If you copy that file into the same location on the new comptuer, your old material is preserved. Then apply the supplements in #2 and #3 and you are good to go.
Another issue to be aware of is that many new computers use a 64-bit Windows operating system, which the old SID is not compatible with. A new 64-bit version of SID is available - but some features have not been finished yet. You can check it out at <www.holwick.com/sermons/database_64-bit.html>.
